Panic bar handle receives Special Mention of the German Design Award 2016

The jury members awarded the prize in recognition of the successful and solution-oriented design of the panic bar handle.

The “DesignLine” panic bar handle from WSS has been awarded the Special Mention prize of the German Design Award 2016. The new product combines high functionality with a clear, purist design. The element is part of the self-locking panic lock series 200 and was first presented at BAU 2015.

The panic bar handle, which was created in collaboration with a product designer, has been recognized for its successful and solution-oriented design. The German Design Award, initiated by the German Design Council in 2012, is regarded as an international premium prize in the field of product and communication design. The jury members evaluate the products based on various criteria, including functionality and usability, safety and accessibility, technical quality, the degree of innovation and the overall concept.

With this DIN EN 1125-certified product innovation, WSS guarantees freedom from constraint even with narrow door leaves, thus expanding the design scope of architects and planners. This is made possible by the intelligent arrangement of the components and their small geometry. The continuously adjustable follower rotation angle of up to 45° also allows the use of current lock series.

The series-ready panic bar handle is available in three versions: with a black plastic ring, with an anodized aluminium spacer ring or with a semi-transparent ring with integrated LED lighting in RGB colors. This lighting technology can be used to support the intuitive operation of the handle in the event of an escape. It can also facilitate integration into the design concept of the building. The panic bar handle can be used on both the left and right and can be installed using standard tools without visible screw fittings. With a cap width of 32 mm, protrusion into the glazing bead is avoided in all cases.

The company has also been able to extend the range of applications for the self-locking panic locks (SvP) in the 200 series with new and further developments. Thanks to a reduction in size, the lock series can also be used in narrow profile chambers without having to cut through profile webs. The lock variants with function E and function B are supplemented by a variant with “electronic handle control”. All locks have an individually adjustable escape direction, can be used on the left and right and are available in both mechanical and mechatronic versions.
